Baggage Tracking is Hot Stuff

No, 2006 wasn’t the year of RFID adoption, despite advances and Gen 2’s grand entrance.

But keep your eyes peeled for apps based on the technology for baggage tracking, fashion, smartcards.

Market research firm IDTechEx says the overall sale of one billion tags in 2006 was below forecasts but more than 1.7 billion tags are expected to be sold worldwide in 2007.

Report author Raghu Das says baggage tracking in airports is emerging as an RFID success story after initially being hampered by technical problems, according to news reports. [end]
