Fridge Filled With RFID Talks Back
Friday, December 29 2006

Wouldn't it be awesome if your appliances told you what you needed to pick up at the grocery store?

That time may come sooner than you think.

Word has it Samsung's new refrigerator is equipped with RFID technology, which informs its owner when food is low.

According to the Korea Times's Wednesday edition, in addition to automatically sensing inventory needs such as when milk or juices run low, Samsung's refrigerator could even send a shopping list to its owner's cell phone or to the supermarket.

Korea's second-largest producer of home appliances is scheduled to launch the device in 2008 or 2009, at the earliest.

Samsung spokesman Chae Hee-kook said, "We are working on refrigerators wired for RFID. Technologically speaking, there is no barrier to come up with the new items."
