RFID Landmark - EPCglobal Inc Standard Adopted by ISO

It is expected to accelerate the uptake of RFID in various supply chain and related applications.
The full name of the Gen2 standard is the ³UHF Generation 2 Air Interface² standard. It is a user-driven standard that helps radio frequency identification (RFID) hardware manufacturers create useful and adoptable hardware.
More than a dozen RFID readers, tags and integrated circuits have already been certified as Gen2-compliant by EPCglobal Inc and are commercially available today.
Gen 2 was added to the ISO/IEC 18000-6 standard, as Amendment 1, as the ³Type C² standard for on Ultra High Frequency (UHF) RFID.
The EPCglobal Inc Gen2 standard was initially developed by more than 60 of the world¹s leading technology companies and describes the core capabilities required to meet the performance needs set by the end-user community.
And also, the ³EPC² in EPCglobal Inc stands for Electronic Product Code. EPCglobal develops and maintains the EPC numbering standard that serves as a global license plate for RFIDs. EPCglobal Inc works under parent organizations GS1, whose work originally created the revolutionary U.P.C. for barcodes. These organizations are the international bodies that include EPCglobal US and GS1 US in the United States. You may know GS1 US by its old name: the Uniform Code Council.
