Jamison Door Launches Heavy-Duty RFID Portal To Support The Reduction Of Obstacles Associated With RFID Deployment 6/29/2006
The Jamison Door Company, announced the launch of their ground-breaking RFID Portal product line at RFID Journal Live 2006. The product will be sold under the Jamison division Industrial Portals™. Jamison developed this portal system to meet an emerging need within the RFID industry and to solve issues associated with RFID deployment, such as cost, durability and hardware and integration capabilities.
“To solve the issues associated with RFID deployment we combined our core expertise in rugged doorway design and manufacturing with the knowledge and deployment experience brought by RFID integrators. The portal allows users to easily install and integrate any RFID hardware/software systems with dramatically lower cost and with far superior capabilities than other portal systems”, stated John Williams, Chairman and CEO of Jamison Door.
The patent-pending portal system was designed to fit traditional dock doorways, but can be engineered to operate in almost any size opening. The portal takes advantage of a variety of unique features including an antenna bracket that provides for three-dimensional vertical and horizontal movements and a hardware independent reader bracket. The antenna movement capabilities allow for RFID signal coverage which is unsurpassed in the industry. In addition, the portal includes a variety of technical components that supply customers with the tools needed for easy integration and functionality required for extracting value out of their RFID investment. These components include:
Light Stacks Motion Detectors/Photo Eyes Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) GPIO Bridge Wireless Networking
The unique GPIO bridge removes all of the obstacles associated with attaching input sensors, such as motion detectors, photo eyes, and floor loops or output signals, such as light stacks, to RFID readers. The bridge makes the connecting of these devices as simple as plugging in a printer. If you replace readers within the portal, reconnecting the GPIO devices requires only the change of one cable.
While developing the Industrial Portals™ line, Jamison utilized the extensive RFID expertise at CapTech Ventures and Tags Ware companies. According to Adam Hofheimer, Director, RFID Business Development at CapTech, “The Jamison portal provides RFID integrators and end-users with the necessary tools to quickly integrate, install and most importantly, profit from RFID. Quite simply, the system is designed to allow easy installation and plug and play capabilities.”
Curtis Berry, Vice President of Engineering at Jamison Door stated, “In a rugged industrial and/or manufacturing environment, companies desire a product that can withstand the elements and provide the greatest amount of flexibility. We are able to offer companies in need of a RFID system with the best solution at the lowest cost.”
