University of Arkansas reveals benefits RFID has for apparel suppliers

New research from the University of Arkansas reveals that apparel suppliers can gain from the use of RFID, particularly in the area of inventory accuracy.

Sponsored by the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) and GS1 US, the study found the potential for suppliers to experience both top- and bottom-line improvements via increase accuracy, cycle count reductions and minimized chargebacks. 

Zebra, Checkpoint Systems partnershp extends enterprise visibility

Zebra and Checkpoint Systems have entered into a cooperative relationship and licensing agreement. While the exact terms of the transaction were not disclosed, the relationship does bring together Zebra’s active location solutions with Checkpoint division OATSystems’ passive RFID, auto-ID and sensor capabilities.

The agreement also provides Zebra with an OEM software license for OATxpress, which is part of the most widely deployed RFID middleware platform, OAT Foundation Suite. This software platform is designed specifically for capturing, filtering and managing high volumes of auto-ID and sensor data from a single facility to an enterprise deployment across hundreds of locations. 

EarthSearch inks deal to curb oil theft, Nigeria

EarthSearch Communications has entered into a partnership agreement with Cynox, the Nigerian technology solutions provider, to monitor fuel levels in oil tankers.

In Nigeria, the cancellation of government oil subsidies has lead to increasing concerns over oil theft. EarthSearch’s integrated RFID and GPS product, together with level sensor technology will be used to monitor sudden drops in fuel level to detect the unauthorized siphoning of oil from the top of tanker. 

Fourteen libraries in the Queens-area convert to RFID

A number of Queens, N.Y. libraries are converting their collection of books and other media to support RFID check-in and check-out, according to The Queens Gazette.

The Fresh Meadows and Far Rockaway branches will be two of the first to receive the automated system. Over the course of the next few months, a total of fourteen Queens library locations will be converted to the RFID check-in and check-out system. 

IC-TAG receives certification from Alien Technology

IC-TAG Solutions announced it has earned certification from Alien Technology to use its EPC Gen 2 RFID inlays.

IC TAG utilizes Alien Technology’s EPC Gen 2 Squiggle, Squiglette, and Square inlays in their IC-TAG RFID labels and tags. Alien uses its own proprietary microchip, Higgs 3, to produce its ultra-high frequency RFID tracking devices.

Denton public libraries have announced plans to install new RFID technology in an effort to speed up the check-in of returned items, while easing the workload of library staff.

According to DentonRC.com, the Texas libraries will look to 3M Library Systems for equipment including self-checkout machines and electronic RFID tags for various library items and equipment.

The integrated system provides real-time data about the state of cargo and the truck, including monitoring pickup and drop-off times, verifying accuracy of shipments and alerting as to whether trucks or cargo have been tampered with or stolen.
