New Aberdeen study looks at IT infrastructures
Research firm Aberdeen Group has unveiled a new study, “RFID and IT Infrastructures: Maximizing Business Value.” The study, sponsored in part by RFID-enabled asset management solution provider Fluensee, explores new ways organizations are using RFID to improve the performance of their IT infrastructures.
According to the report, the range of areas in which RFID is being used has expanded beyond traditional inventory tracking or manufacturing line applications, as demonstrated by the assets to which companies attach RFID tags. For example, more survey respondents (43%) are tagging or planning to tag IT assets than manufacturing work in process (35%) or inventory (30%).
“According to more than 200 survey respondents, the top pressures driving integration of RFID and IT infrastructure management are the desires to ease integration of RFID-generated data with key applications, and to maximize the business value of that data,” said Michael Dortch, a senior analyst at Aberdeen. “And best-in-class survey respondents enjoyed an average 6.9% year-over-year reduction in ‘time to information’ for business intelligence, underscoring the ability of RFID-IT infrastructure management integration to deliver meaningful business benefits.” ![[end]](/resources/bullet/rfidnews-4.gif)
