Engineered Systems taps Field ID for safety compliance

Engineered Systems has elected Field ID inspection software to boost safety compliance management of it various overhead cranes, trolleys and hoists supplied in the U.S. southeast.

The company will use Field ID to improve the efficiency of its equipment inspections, which until recently used manual procedures and pen and paper to record safety inspections.


Engineered Systems will affix RFID tags to crane, trolley and hoist components. Using mobile devices and Field ID’s cloud-based inspection software, safety inspectors can instantly identify equipment at any customer location and access information such as the date of last inspection, certification deadlines and work orders to repair safety deficiencies.

With Field ID the company can certify equipment and immediately notify customers about parts needing repair or replacement. The RFID-enabled system will further enhance compliance processes, while improving the communication of results to customers, and gain faster access to comprehensive safety information. [end] 

Cubic Transportation Systems has been awarded a $65 million deal, through its Australian division, to provide for passenger rail operations in Sydney.

The three-year contract includes expanded operations, maintenance of ticketing equipment, infrastructure and delivery of associated services by Cubic to RailCorp (Rail Corporation New South Wales). The contract includes provisions to be extended within two one-year options for services.

The Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois has equipped itself with an RFID-based surveillance tag system utilizing wireless sensing technology provided by Evigia Systems.

The integrated system consists of Evigia’s EV3 platform and will be used to track the physical locations and monitor the status to help ensure the safety and security of nuclear materials during processing, storage and transport.

TriggerSmart, a startup based out of Ireland, has developed an RFID-based firearm which authenticates its owner before firing, according to SmartPlanet.

An RFID reader is first embedded in the handle of the gun and programmed to recognize a passive RFID tag, carrying a unique ID number that is embedded in either a ring or a bracelet, worn by the gun owner.
