Vigo County Library gets on board with 3M

Tuesday, October 25, 2011

The Vigo County Public Library in Terre Haute, Ind. has selected 3M RFID and the 3M automated materials handling system to help improve efficiency for library staff and patrons.

Founded in 1882, the Vigo County library has over 600,000 visits annually and has an annual circulation of nearly 900,000. With the products and technology from 3M, library staff can spend less time handling materials and more time helping their patrons discover within the library.

“Moving to RFID will help increase the productivity of the staff and allow them time to refocus their time assisting patrons, said Nancy Dowell,” Vigo County Public Library Director.

Vigo County Public Library joins many others around the nation that have deployed similar library technology from 3M RFID, including those in Michigan and New Jersey[end]

The Buffalo & Erie County Public Library, New York has started using a self-checkout system that makes use of RFID technology, according to a local news report. In the past, if patrons wanted to check out a book or CD, they had to wait for a librarian to do it for them.
