In order to manage visitor access at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Belgium, organizers are using RFID technology provided by Belgian company RFIDea, now part of the ZETES Group.
Spa-Grand Prix, the organizer for the event, anticipates selling at least 150,000 admission tickets. Each ticket will feature an embedded RFID chip. Admission officers will each be issued a mobile RFID reader and placed throughout the circuit to help manage access to the different zones.
There will be a total of 80 RFID access points to control traffic to and within the 20 different circuit zones. Entry and exit point information is stored in the RFID chip itself, thereby detouring the counterfeit and wrongful exchange of tickets.
In addition, the RFID chip in the ticket is read much faster than a bar code at the checkpoints, thus wait time and long lines are minimized. The Belgian F1 Grand Prix is scheduled to take place in Spa-Francorchamps from August 26 - 28. ![[end]](/resources/bullet/rfidnews-4.gif)
