Neology has filed a lawsuit against Federal Signal and Sirit for patent infringement in six Neology patents.

Filed in U.S. District Court, the lawsuit demands that Federal Signal and related companies immediately and permanently stop directly or indirectly making, using, selling or offering for sale, importing or exporting, all infringing RFID tags, readers, and systems or sub-systems.

The suit also demands that Neology be fully compensated for all damages attributable to past infringement.

U.S. government settles smart card infringement case

The U.S. government has settled an infringement case with Leighton Technologies by agreeing to license its smart cards.

Leighton Technologies, a subsidiary of General Patent, filed a case against the federal government in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims in January 2010. Leighton alleged that 54 federal agencies used its six smart card patents without authorization. Leighton’s technology was also used in e-passports.

Patent may see production of biometric-enabled game controllers

Microsoft Corp. has received a patent for a biometric-reading, pressure sensitive surface that can be used on a video game controller to enable user login by touch.

Mexico system allows residents of Sonora free passage through toll booths

Mexico’s Federal Tolling Authority - Caminos y Puentes Federales de Ingresos y Servicios Conexos (CAPUFE) - has awarded a contract to system integrator Axiompass to install a toll-free system for residents using Sirit RFID readers.

SMARTRAC acquires Neology

SMARTRAC announced that the company recently signed an agreement to acquireNeology Inc., a provider of integrated solutions for the tolling, electronic vehicle registration (EVR) and public safety markets.
