Zebra unveils Gen 2 RFID card sporting Impinj’s Monza 4 chip

Thursday, April 14, 2011

Zebra Technologies, a recognized provider in bar code, kiosk, card and RFID printers as well as real-time location solutions, recently introduced its new ultra-high frequency Gen 2 RFID card with Impinj Monza 4 silicon.

The cards also comes with Impinj’s Monza 4 chip, which provides advanced sensitivity giving the card enhanced read rates and a read range of more than 50 feet even while worn in a lanyard. The new ultra-high frequency card, combined with Zebra’s card printer/encoder line open new applications such as reading through handbags, pockets and backpacks, and delivering increased access control and efficiency.

Benefits of the UHF Gen 2 RFID card include memory configuration to protect privacy and hide sensitive information and a read range reduction feature, protecting users from unauthorized tracking by temporarily reducing the read range of the card to less than one foot.

In addition, a 48-bit unique ID feature protects against card cloning and provides a card authentication method to uniquely identify every card. [end]

Impinj introduced Monza Self-Serialization, a chip-based EPC serialization method supported on ultra-high frequency RFID inlays powered by the Monza 5 tag chip.

Monza Self-Serialization generates a unique Serialized Global Trade Item Number (SGTIN) directly from each tag chip. This chip-based serialization simplifies EPC serial number management, giving retail brand owners the flexibility to decide when, where and how they manage the item-level tagging process across their supply chain.
