Tift Regional taps AeroScout for tracking medical supplies

Wednesday, April 13, 2011

Tifton, Ga.-based Tift Regional Medical Center has implemented AeroScout’s RTLS-based temperature monitoring and asset tracking and management solution.

With the AeroScout solution, Tift is leveraging its existing wireless infrastructure to track and manage critical medical equipment and wirelessly monitor temperatures in its refrigerators and freezers.

The staff at Tift implemented AeroScout’s asset tracking and management solution to locate critical equipment, such as wheelchairs, stretchers and infusion pumps, throughout the facility.

Caregivers no longer have to manually search the hospital for available equipment, instead they are able to spend time attending to patients and have the proper items when and where they need them.

Using AeroScout’s temperature monitoring solution, Tift automates monitoring of refrigerators and freezers, which contain medications and other critical items. Wireless tags measure temperatures on a defined time interval and transmit the data to AeroScout’s MobileView software. If a temperature reading becomes unsafe, automated alerts are sent to the appropriate staff members.

Additionally, AeroScout is helping the medical center minimize spoilage of emergency medications and other medical supplies on crash carts. Reports show the expiration date of time-sensitive supplies, ensuring that items are either used or are taken out of rotation before they expire. [end]

AeroScout is working with Siemens Healthcare to deploy AeroScout’s real-time location system to help health care organizations improve operations and quality of care.

Most recently Siemens implemented AeroScout’s Temperature Monitoring solution across three of Lifespan’s hospitals in Rhode Island. Using its existing Wi-Fi network, Lifespan is monitoring and managing the temperature of hundreds of refrigerators that contain critical items, such as pharmaceuticals, blood, and research materials.

AeroScout was recently selected to implement and integrate its Wi-Fi RFID-enabled Work-in-Process (WIP) Visibility solution for a Continental Tire factory in France.

Traditionally, manually locating the large carriers used for material transport was challenging and inefficient, resulting in wasted time and materials. With the AeroScout solution, Continental Tire employees can check where a carrier is located in real-time from a Wi-Fi enabled computer.
