Radio Frequency Identification Technology for Logistics, Tagging and EPC

Omni-ID, C-Logistics provides real-time tracking to oil and gas industry

Wednesday, April 13, 2011

Omni-ID and C-Logistics partnered to co-develop RFID technology designed to track pipes, rental equipment and other assets found in oil and gas land and offshore logistics operations.

The Omni-ID Solo is a long-range, durable passive ultra-high frequency RFID tag designed for disposable assets that are part of the open-loop supply chain for both offshore rigs and land drilling fields. The Omni-ID Pipe is an impact resistant, limited life ultra-high frequency RFID tag that adapts to a wide range of pipe diameters and is designed to endure the rigors of pipe and cylinder storage and transport.

The new tags provide real-time information to make the distribution of equipment and supplies from docks, storage yards, and warehouses to oil and gas drilling operations more efficient. Both tags comply with the EPC Gen 2 standard for passive RFID tags set by EPC Global and GS1, the worldwide standards organization.

Several C-Logistics customers are currently piloting the use of Omni-ID Solo and Omni-ID Pipe tags, including Petroleo Brasileiro S.A.’s U.S.A. operations, global energy company Royal Dutch Shell, and NOV Tuboscope of Houston, Texas. [end]
