Tego develops Radion tag for gamma and radiation RFID

Tego announced availability of the Tego Radion tag, a Gen 2 ultra-high frequency tag capable of surviving repeated gamma-sterilization and other radiation exposure commonly found in applications such as medical, life-science and food industries.

Tego’s Radion tag is based on the similar technology found in Tego’s 32K chip designed for aerospace. Users can make decisions at the point of read even when the tag has been exposed to radiation. They can read and write tag data, view maintenance logs, configurations or other historical data all at the point of read.


The new chip offers 1.5 kilobits of EPC and user memory for functionality in supply chain, asset management and logistics applications as well as maintenance tracking. It is also applicable in the nuclear energy industry for tracking radioactive materials or assets exposed to radiation.

The Radion tag is designed to survive harsh environments with exposure to powerful ionizing and non-ionizing radiation including X-ray gamma and other type of electromagnetic radiation. “We put Radion through multiple sterilization cycles with exposure to 100kGy of gamma radiation – roughly 25,000 times the human lethal dose,” said Bob Hamlin, CTO at Tego.

The Tego Radion tag is available, as an inlay, label or industrial tag and is shipping now. [end] 

GAO RFID Asset Tracking announced an ultra-high frequency Gen 2 RFID reader with 4-port read and 4-port listen.

This RFID reader, operating at the frequency range of 902 to 928 MHz, reads Gen 2 compatible transponders at a maximum distance of up to 7 meters or more. It also offers communication interfaces including Ethernet TCP/ IP, DHCP and HTTPS for data exchange.
