Digital Angel HD.Tag receives USDA approval

Tuesday, August 3, 2010

Digital Angel, a provider in the field of animal identification and emergency identification solutions, announced that the U.S. Department Agriculture has approved the Destron Fearing HD.Tag, a line of electronic identification tags using Half Duplex (HDX) technology.

Approval from the USDA is part of an initiative to increase the United States’ disease response capabilities. The 15-digit ID number that is programmed into the Destron Fearing HD.Tag and delivered to the livestock producer is links to a livestock database managed by the USDA. In case of a disease outbreak, the USDA can trace the origins of an animal identified through this process to assist federal and state health officials.

Half Duplex technology – also ISO approved and compatible for international use - is a passive RFID electronic identification system. Instead of using a continual signal (Full Duplex), it uses shorter-term signals to transfer data from tag to reader.

The Destron Fearing HD.Tag is available in 3 different product combinations. Producers can choose the typical RFID button only tag, a combo panel tag where the RFID button is attached to the panel, or choice set offering a panel tag for the right ear and the RFID button tag for the left. [end]

Available in both full- and half-duplex designs, the tag consists of a unique 840 country-coded, fifteen-digit animal ID number as well as a pink tamper-proof RFID button and a pink visual panel stud.
