Radio Frequency Identification Technology for Logistics, Tagging and EPC

EssenRFID removes slack from India construction project

Thursday, July 15, 2010

EssenRFID will supply RFID tags to Mumbai construction workers hired by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai to replace two major pipelines responsible for supplying water to the Mumbai population.

Unity Infraprojects, the civil contractor hired for this development, plans to use RFID technology to catch what they call “ghosts,” or people who do not show up for work. Some contract laborers do not turn up for work, yet they are still getting paid daily wages, resulting in both loss revenue and decreased productivity.

Provided by the Mumbai-based EssenRFID, each construction worker will be given an RFID tag, which contains unique ID details of the worker including the contracting agency. Each worker’s image will be captured by a power-over-ethernet camera and stored in a database on a server.

When the worker comes to collect his daily wages, information on the tag can be matched with that in the database to verify if the worker attended duty. Only then will the wages be paid.
