Lufthansa improves aircraft maintenance with UPM

Lufthansa Technik, a global provider of aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services, has been successfully using UPM Raflatac’s RFID technology in tracking aircraft components for the past two years.


Lufthansa Technik Logistik, the logistics service provider of LHT, has been attaching RFID tags to documents accompanying components as they are removed, serviced or repaired, and reinstalled.

The use of RFID technology has improved the repair-cycle process for components by reducing or eliminating the need for manual data entry, thus also avoiding delivery errors, and automatically verifying the authenticity of parts. [end] 

Tego Inc. announced the addition of the TegoChip 2000 to its product line with optimization for Air Transport Associations (ATA) Spec 2000 part identification.

The TegoChip 2000, 2 kilobit low memory RFID chip is designed for tagging aircraft parts that require only birth record storage and identification. For example, oxygen tanks and life vests need to be accounted for but do not carry the record-intensive maintenance history needs of other aircraft parts.
