Ubisense provides real-time location of buses and trams

Monday, April 12, 2010

Ubisense has completed installation of its real-time location system, in conjunction with Verkehrsautomatisierung Berlin (VAB), at two depots for the Jena Transit Authority.

Vehicles equipped with Ubisense RFID tags communicate with sensors located at various positions around each of the depots. Location information is provided and used in real-time, enabling the exact position of vehicles to be displayed, and ensuring the efficient management of routine processes such as maintenance and cleaning.

The system also supplies information for the VAB depot management system, providing alerts when vehicles arrive or leave the depot.

The Ubisense solution is currently monitoring eighty vehicles belonging to the transit authority. Thirty additional vehicles are planned to be added in the near future. [end]
