AeroScout selected for wireless temperature monitoring of hospital fridges and freezers

Tuesday, March 2, 2010

AeroScout announced that Adventist Health System has selected its temperature monitoring solution to wirelessly monitor and manage the temperatures of Adventist’s hospital refrigerators and freezers.

The AeroScout temperature monitoring solution is designed to it relieve nursing staff from having to keep manual temperature logs, saving time and effort that can be spent focusing on patient care. If the temperature within a monitored area goes outside its specified range, an alert is sent to a 24-hour IT team.

With AeroScout’s temperature monitoring solution, users can determine why temperature changes occurred - if a freezer door was left open, or if there is a greater malfunction that requires corrective actions. Users can also tell when the temperature change occurred, to determine if the contents are still safe for use.

Adventist Health System has worked with AeroScout prior to this selection, deploying its Wi-Fi RFID solution at Florida Hospital to automate tracking of temperatures within fringes and freezers containing pharmaceuticals and tissue samples, and to facilitate regulatory compliance. [end]

Aethon announced recently that it’s automated tracking and chain-of-custody system - MedEx - is now operational at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

The MedEx System serves as enhancement to the TUG robot, also developed by Aethon, and allows hospital pharmacies to know the real-time location and status of medications throughout the facility. Combining passive RFID technology and biometrics capabilities built into the TUG secure carts, MedEx automatically creates an electronic chain-of-custody receipt including the person, location, and date/time indicating when an item is placed in and removed from the TUG.
