WaveMark unveils RFID-enabled smart cabinets

WaveMark announced the release of several new RFID-enabled smart cabinet styles for the real-time tracking of critical supplies used in health care and medical departments.

Offered in the three styles, the cabinets offer locking doors that can be access via an RFID fob or PIN to identify the individual who accessed the product.


The cabinet line-up includes:

  • An upright five-shelf cabinet, suited for high-value products, such as implantable cardiac defibrillators or pacemakers, and to store products in areas where higher security is necessary.
  • A wireless mobile cabinet for easy transport from storage to procedure room while maintaining real-time read reliability over a 12-hour battery-life.
  • A tabletop cabinet for tracking in small places or smaller inventories such as heart valves.

The RFID storage units are specifically designed to enable hospitals to improve cost containment, patient safety and regulatory compliance. [end] 

SML Group Ltd announced the launch of its new “ViziT” RFID item visibility solutions for the retail apparel and item tracking applications.

The ViziT solutions include a range of RFID/EAS enabled paper and woven labels, as well as tickets and sticker that can be attached to garments and stacked items. Using the SML ViziT IT cloud based data management software also provides for semi automated inventory control, as well as improved loss prevention by triggering alarms and item identification at the store exit.

Sony has revealed its new NFC-enabled Xperia S smart phone at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, according to ITProPortal.

The inaugural handset in Sony’s new line of NXT smart phones (as in “NeXT” generation), the Xperia S features a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, a 12MP camera, HDMI connection, 32GB of internal flash storage space and a 4.3-inch 720 x 1280 pixel display in addition to NFC.

AVT, a developer of biometric technology, announced a partnership with MedBox, a developer of prescription medication vending machines.

The new deal has brought AVT’s fingerpint-based identity verification technology to the medicine dispensing machines from MedBox enabling them to create cabinets that ensure someone is not fraudulently receiving medication while also increasing a pharmacy’s ability to track inventory and increase their accuracy with patient prescriptions.
