Alien scales up fish crate tracking

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

Alien Technology and partner, ProSign, announced a RFID traceability solution for the Danish fish crate tracking group, Pack and Sea. Pack and Sea will implement ProSign’s encapsulated tags using Alien’s Higgs-3 based Squiggle inlays.

ProSign’s encapsulated tags, with Alien’s inlays, are designed for enduring the harsh and wet environments including the high-temperature cleaning processes and continuous exposure to heavily concentrated salt-water oceans.

Further research is being done to develop a system that would allow fishermen to read the crates at sea to register the type of fish caught. The system would enable visibility on the type and number of fish. Information can then be relayed to the harbor agency for availability of fish to be auctioned.

This information can also be forwarded to proper authorities to ensure fishing regulations are being followed, potentially reducing policing efforts. [end]

Texas Instruments (TI) introduced a pair of encapsulated RFID mini-transponders designed for applications in animal tagging and asset tracking.

The 12mm TRPGR30TGC and TRPGP40TGC mini-transponders were developed to enable users a battery-free solution for embedding RFID tags into smaller objects across a broader range of applications. These transponders come ready-to-use and are 100 percent backwards compatible with all of TI’s RFID software and readers including power modules, control modules and micro readers.
