Revere Security develop Hummingbird algorithm for stronger RFID encryption

Wednesday, December 2, 2009

Revere Security has developed the Hummingbird algorithm to provide a higher level of security, and encourage the adoption of RFID solutions. The encryption includes secure identification and mutual authentication, with a minimal impact on tag performance.

Revere Security’s Hummingbird algorithm was engineered with RFID technology in mind, addressing concerns in security, performance, power and size restrictions.

Current requirements call for the use of encryption, but do not require a message authentication code (MAC), which Hummingbird does. Hummingbird is able to automatically generate a MAC as a by-product of message encryption without draining excessive computational power. [end]
