SMARTRAC awarded with RFID vehicle tracking project

Tuesday, December 1, 2009

SMARTRAC, manufacturer and supplier of RFID components, was awarded with an RFID vehicle tracking project in the Philippines.

By implementing long-range passive RFID tags, the project is expected to improve traffic flow, help enforce traffic laws and increase vehicle security. SMARTRAC is already delivering windshield labels affixed with RFID tags to Free2move Scientific, the provider of handheld readers for enforcement officers, stationary RFID readers for outdoor road deployments and accessories for fixing tags onto non-windscreen vehicles such as motorcycles and trailers.

The tamper-proof, passive windshield labels provided by SMARTRAC possess several security features, ensuring vehicle data is only accessed only by authorized readers of the Philippine Department of Transportation and police.

This project marks one of the first country-wide implementations of RFID technology for traffic management in the world. [end]
