WiFi platform helps PA hospital implement AeroScout solution

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

AeroScout announced that York Hospital in Pennsylvania has implemented AeroScout’s Wi-Fi-based RFID asset tracking solution in emergency, biomedical engineering and transportation departments.

The solution deployed at York Hospital, a 580-bed WellSpan community teaching hospital, consists of AeroScout’s MobileView software and Wi-Fi tags. These tags are attached to mobile hospital assets, including gurneys, infusion pumps, feeding pumps, portable physiological monitors and circulatory assistance pumps. The solution allows staff to immediately locate a tagged item via any computer on the network using the MobleView interface.

According to Chad Noll, manager of biomedical engineering at WellSpan, Aeroscout’s solution was quick and easy to implement because it runs on the standard Wi-Fi already in use at the hospital. Because of the existing network, hospital staff can also locate computers and portable IP phones without the need of a tag. [end]

The Basque National Health System has launched a neonatal security system designed to monitor and protect new-born infants using RFID technology.

When a pregnant woman is admitted to hospital, she is provided a tag with a unique identification which can be read in all the maternity zones. When the baby is born, an RFID tag specially designed for the new born is fitted to its ankle. The device monitors the infant 24 hours a day, detecting unauthorized movements, registering entries and exits to and from and enabling immediate location information.
