Ivy League medical centers choose AeroScout solutions

Wednesday, April 8, 2009

AeroScout Inc., a provider of asset visibility solutions for a variety of industries, has announced recent deployments of its systems at two health care institutions affiliated with Ivy League universities. Both the Yale-New Haven Hospital and the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center have selected AeroScout to supply asset tracking applications for its facilities.

At Yale-New Haven Hospital in Connecticut, AeroScout has deployed asset tracking and temperature monitoring solutions. The hospital will use the firm’s WiFi tags to track approximately 1,000 medical assets and to track temperature fluctuations of refrigerated items. The system was designed to integrate with the facility’s existing Cisco wireless network, enabling campus-wide monitoring at a relatively low cost.

New Hampshire’s Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center implemented the AeroScout asset management system to track the center’s expensive “smart” infusion pumps, which were spread across a complex of ten buildings. The RFID-enabled solution has not just enabled staff to locate pumps in an efficient manner; it also helps identify which of the hospital’s 500 pumps are in need of cleaning, upgrades, or routine maintenance. The AeroScout system has made use of the inventory of pumps so efficient that administrators believe they will be able to reduce the number of pumps the hospital purchases, resulting in substantial savings.

As with the Yale-New Haven system, the Dartmouth-Hitchcock solution was integrated with an existing Cisco wireless network. The medical center is now exploring other areas where an RFID-enabled system could improve safety and efficiency, including temperature monitoring for its refrigerators. [end]

AeroScout announced that COTEMAR, S.A. de C.V., is using AeroScout’s real-time location system (RTLS) to enhance worker safety on its four offshore housing platforms.

The AeroScout Worker Safety solution used by COTEMAR includes AeroScout MobileView software and Wi-Fi RFID tags attached to a lanyard that must be worn by every staff member, guest and visitor during their stay at one of the facilities.
