Impinj lays off 23, cuts expenses

Seattle-based RFID provid Impinj laid off 23 employees last Thursday as a result of the general worldwide economic downturn. The company has also begun making cuts in the number of contract workers it employs, as well as other unspecified cuts in expenses.


According to an Impinj spokesperson, the layoffs are not the result of specific blows to the company’s business; instead they are a preemptive move to ensure Impinj’s strong cash position and protect its business plan as global economic conditions sour.

Ten employees in Seattle were eliminated, with the other lost jobs scattered throughout other U.S. locations, Europe, and Asia. Last year, Impinj eliminated six jobs during its acquisition of Intel’s RFID division. The company did not provide a current number of employees on the payroll.
