RCG, an RFID and biometric solutions provider with operations focused in the Asia-Pacific region, has announced a series of deals which signal the company’s move into the financial services sector.

The contracts call for RCG to supply and implement technology for two major Chinese banks, China Construction Bank and Bank of China. The new systems will focus on improving three areas for the banks: on-site bank security, cashbox security, and customer service experience.

According to a spokesperson for RCG, the deals reflect the company’s recent focus on the Chinese banking sector in an attempt to take advantage of the industry’s rapid growth. RCG is also working on projects in the health care, transport, property, media, education, and entertainment industries in the Asia-Pacific region and the Middle East.

Hitachi partners with Isbank for largest network of biometric ATMs

Hitachi partnered with Turkey-based banking company Isbank to bring biometric identification authentication to roughly 3,400 ATMs in Europe.

While the new network of biometric ATMs, which utilize Hitachi’s finger vein scanning technology, is the largest in Europe, it is far from the largest worldwide where Japan has embraced the technology and installed more than 75,000 finger vein-based ATMs.

Turkcell brings road toll payments to T11 smart phone

Turkcell, Turkey’s largest mobile operator, has announced the launch of a SIM-based NFC road toll payment application on the Turkcell T11 smart phone.

Developed in collaboration with Bank Asya, the app allows users to migrate their plastic KGS toll payment cards onto their T11 smart phone to pay for fares when crossing bridges and freeway turnpikes.

Sparkasse issues 1.3 million contactless bank cards

German bank, Sparkasse will pilot contactless payments for its bank credit card users, reports Venture Village.

Locations in Hannover, Braunschweig and Wolfsburg will be some of the first for the trial, which begins in April. More than 1.3 million customers will receive the new bank cards complete with contactless functionality.

BofA imposes debit card fee, impacts campus banking relationships

Bank of America announced that it will begin charging a $5 monthly fee for cardholders who use their debit cards, a move that may impact banking relationships on campus.
