Intermec wins Saudi postal contract

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

Saudi Post, the official postal operator of Saudi Arabia, has announced a contract with Intermec Technologies Inc. to provide an RFID-enabled tracking solution for its mail delivery. The system, which updates a previous solution that used RFID components, will use Intermec’s CN3 mobile computers and IP30 handheld RFID readers.

Saudi Post has invested heavily in advanced technology for its Postal Delivery System (PDS), which integrates multiple aspect of mail delivery from CRM and sorting machines to navigation systems and Automatic Vehicle Location applications for its delivery people.

The previous PDS solution used by Saudi Post required the use of three separate devices: a handheld device with an RFID reader, Automatic Vehicle Location hardware for tracking vehicles and an in-vehicle personal computer to display the navigation application. Intermec’s CN3 computer combines all three features, bringing greater simplicity and efficiency to the system as a whole.

“As soon as a postal worker makes a delivery, they can use their Intermec CN3 to synchronize and update our database. There is no longer the need to wait for them to return at the end of the day,” said Majed Bin Anzzan, E-Business director for Saudi Post. “Additionally, the new solution will significantly increase customer satisfaction as it enables us to immediately show our customers that a letter or package has been delivered as the confirmation of delivery is detailed on the Saudi Post Web site.” [end]
