I.D. Systems powers up fleet management solution

Thursday, February 5, 2009

I.D. Systems Inc., a provider of wireless vehicle management solutions (VMS), has introduced PowerFleet, a VMS for forklifts and other industrial vehicles. The new solution deploys a combination of software and wireless communication technology to address the complexities of industrial fleet management.

At a basic level, PowerFleet is designed to facilitate the most critical safety and maintenance functions associated with industrial vehicles, including access control, electronic safety checklists, and impact sensing. The solution also offers an array of expansion modules to address more complicated fleet management needs. These optional modules include solutions for productivity management, vehicle visibility including movement history, vehicle battery management, and two-way text messaging for task dispatching.

The system’s wireless technology, which I.D. Systems refers to as SecureStream, also enables a zone-based functionality. With RFID and wireless devices, users can create zone restrictions including “geo-fencing,” which can restrict a vehicle’s operating area, and localized speed restrictions which can automatically put the brakes on risky driving in specified areas.

The PowerFleet system is being demonstrated at the ProMat material handling exposition this week at Chicago’s McCormick Place Convention Center. [end]

Avis Rent A Car and I.D. Systems have inked a $14 million deal to deploy wireless vehicle rental technology on Avis’ vehicle rental fleet.

The system, Avis On Location, is based on RFID technology to enable virtual rental transactions, and will enable the company to automatically rent vehicles and accept returns at airport locations and corporate campuses.
