TagStar launches new inlay

Monday, February 2, 2009

RFID inlay producer TagStar Systems GmbH has introduced a new inlay based on a chip developed by IDS Microchip, specialists in integrated circuits for RFID systems. The chip the inlay is based on, the IDS-SL13LA, was named a 2008 electronic product of the year by Electronic Products magazine, for its ability to produce a wide range of data at a low price point.

The temperature-sensing IDS-SL13LA chip can automatically track, monitor, time-stamp, and record information for goods in a range of supply chains, and is marketed at a price point roughly ten times lower than most chips with similar functions. TagStar was involved in the development of the IDS device, and designed an antenna to meet the specific requirements of the IDS-SL13A.

Due to the inlay’s chip-specific design, the antenna enables reliable access to the temperature sensor for long-term data logging and provides a mounting place and conductor paths for the power supply. In addition, TagStar uses a special bonding process to assures that the inlays withstand a wide temperature and air humidity range. [end]

Identive Group announced an innovative breakthrough in RFID inlay manufacturing technology with the company’s patent-pending SmartCore technology.

SmartCore leverages Identive’s existing proprietary antenna and inlay designs as well as manufacturing techniques to produce RFID core-inlays enabling unique “printability” with a thinner profile for contactless ID and access cards.
