Tego launches high-memory passive tag
Tego Inc., a RFID tag provider headquartered in Waltham, Mass., has introduced a new passive tag with a high memory capacity. The company claims that the new TegoTag has broken through previous memory limitation barriers for tags without a power source, offering up to 2500 times the storage capacity of the average passive tag on the market today.
“We haven’t just introduced a tag with a small increase in memory capacity. We’ve gone from the equivalent of a license plate to a whole novel,” says Timothy Butler, president and CEO of Tego. According to Butler, in addition to the greatly increased storage capacity, TegoTags also have a guaranteed memory retention lifespan of 20 years.
French airplane manufacturer Airbus, which has announced requirements for its suppliers to include RFID tags on all plane parts by the end of 2009, has ordered the TegoTag system as part of its RFID program. Tego says the TegoTag is the only commercially available tag which fits Airbus’s published requirements.
In addition to the aviation industry, Tego points to industries including oil and gas producers, retail, and utility companies as potential users of their device.
