Soft ferrites specialist launches RFID tag

Friday, January 23, 2009

Ferroxcube, an international supplier of soft ferrites, has introduced a new HF RFID tag. The Ferroxtag, available with epoxy and silicon seal packaging, is designed for use in specialized environments including in liquids or on metal surfaces.

The tag construction features oxygen-iron powder sintered (a process used in metallurgy and ceramics in which a solid powder is heated below its melting point until the particles adhere to each other) on to an antenna and combined with RFID chips. This design enables the tag to withstand interference or diffraction which can result from being either immersed in liquid, exposed to high humidity or attached to a metal surface.

Among the real world applications deploying the Ferroxtag are a European pharmaceutical company’s warehouse management system and a positioning system for trains entering stations. [end]
