AeroScout, Psion Teklogix collaborate on yard management solution

Tuesday, January 13, 2009

Asset visibility solution developer AeroScout has teamed with Psion Teklogix, a provider of mobile computing solutions, to create an RFID-enabled yard management system for a major logistics center affiliated with the Hyundai Automotive Group.

The system, deployed by Glovis Alabama, uses a combination of products from AeroScout and Psion Teklogix to track assets from pallet-level warehouse activity to the movement of shipping containers and service vehicles in the storage yard.

Glovis Alabama moves nearly a million automotive parts a day in its 250,000 square-foot facility. The facility manages 500 shipping containers delivered from Korea at any given time. The company required better accuracy in locating containers in the yard and improved tracking of inventory in both the yard and warehouse facilities.

With the new system, containers entering the yard are labeled with an AeroScout tag, as are the service vehicles that move containers around the yard. Tagged objects are continuously tracked throughout the yard, and the location information is sent to AeroScout’s MobileView software via Glovis’s Wi-Fi network. The software integrates the data into Glovis’s existing yard management system, offering automatic up-to-date inventory information.

After inventory is removed from the shipping containers and enters the warehouse, Psion Teklogix’ WORKABOUT PRO tracks pallets of parts. This information is also automatically sent to the yard management system.

“AeroScout and Psion Teklogix are giving us the solutions we need to do an even better job of mastering the choreography of receiving, locating, and delivering an enormous volume of parts at a moment’s notice,” said Jin-Ho Choi, CEO of Glovis Alabama. “We’ve been able to improve productivity, expedite gate traffic, and track campus assets with better efficiency.” [end]

AeroScout announced that COTEMAR, S.A. de C.V., is using AeroScout’s real-time location system (RTLS) to enhance worker safety on its four offshore housing platforms.

The AeroScout Worker Safety solution used by COTEMAR includes AeroScout MobileView software and Wi-Fi RFID tags attached to a lanyard that must be worn by every staff member, guest and visitor during their stay at one of the facilities.
