Radio Frequency Identification Technology for Logistics, Tagging and EPC

"Magic mirror" offers shoppers advice

Friday, October 24, 2008

The NEC Corporation, with the support and promotional assistance of supply chain standards organization GS1, has launched a new mirror that uses RFID technology to provide shoppers with product information as they try on clothes.

The EPCmagic Mirror uses GS1 EPC/RFID technology to display product information such as available sizes, colors and prices, as well as tips on appropriate accessories. An integrated RFID reader scans information on EPC/RFID tags attached to clothes, and then displays the associated information the retailer wants the customers to see.

The new device also gives retailers an alternative advertising venue, using NEC’s digital signage software to offer customers targeted ads based on the merchandise they have already selected. NEC provides ongoing managed services to complement the product and offer tailored specifications.

The Australian subsidiaries of NEC and GS1 officially launched the EPCmagic Mirror at the Impetus 2008 supply chain conference and expo held in Melbourne October 23 and 24. [end]
