RFIDGS wins second phase of NASA contract

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 in News

RFID Global Solutions will complete the second phase expansion of a project bringing a real-time RFID location system to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. RFIDGS was awarded the contract for the project by The Boeing Company, which acts in a support role at the space center.

The initial deployment of the RFID system was successfully completed earlier this year. It is designed to locate equipment, tools and critical components at both the facility and vehicle level.

The expansion phase will cover more items and introduce RFID Global Solution’s new Visi-Trac Asset Tracking software. The new software solution enables NASA to track both critical assets and components across pre-defined areas of the space center, and uses vehicle-mounted RFID receivers with mobile terminals to support the delivery of space shuttle payloads to the launch pad.

To complete the project and more easily respond to customer needs, RFIDGS will work with Florida-based Franwell Inc., a RFID supply chain specialist. RFIDGS worked with Franwell during the initial NASA project, and recently announced a strategic partnership with the firm. [end]
