Data storage firm adds RFID tags to removable tapes

Wednesday, October 15, 2008

As RFID tracking applications become increasingly used in data centers for security and inventory purposes, removable data storage firm Imation has introduced a new product that makes introducing the technology simpler. The company’s new Dataguard rf Tracking System offers storage tapes with embedded RFID tags and an integrated serial number management system.

The tracking system enables quick inventory of a tape library and helps guard against loss or theft as tapes are in transit from data centers to storage vaults. The software has an open interface which can sync with an existing tape management system.

Imation’s new system is on display at the Storage Expo show currently operating in London. [end]
