Wednesday, October 8, 2008

Expanding on news first reported yesterday, the Army Program Manager Joint–Automated Information Technology (PM J-AIT) office has awarded a contract for the purchase of passive RFID technology. ODIN Technologies has been named as a prime contractor in the deal, and joining ODIN in that role are CDO Technologies, Code Plus, Lowry Computer Products Inc., Northrop Grumman Corp., SYS-TEC Corp. The total value of the contract is placed at $75 million.

As stated yesterday, ODIN will work with a number of its business partners to supply hardware, software and system support under the contract. The other prime contractors have indicated similar plans; Northrup Grumman actually entered the bidding process at the request of some of its smaller industry partners. The six prime contractors will compete for specific task orders within the contract.

According to Lt. Col. Pat Burden, who heads PM J-AIT, the contracts will help the Army to offer site surveys, installation, integration, and training for turn-key passive RFID deployments. The contracts will serve users throughout the Defense Department and the Coast Guard, as well as NATO nations and other unspecified foreign countries. [end]
