RFID booming at all levels, says IDTechEx Chair

Friday, September 5, 2008

The market for RFID-enabled solutions is experiencing growth at all levels, according to Peter Harrop, the chairman of the research firm IDTechEx. For every headline-making big money contract between industry giants, says Harrop, there are dozens of million dollar orders placed around the world for RFID products for an array of purposes.

Harrop’s review of the industry is in anticipation of the RFID Europe Conference scheduled for September 30 through October 1 in Cambridge, UK. The conference, organized by IDTechEx, will feature speakers looking at the full spectrum of the RFID market, from both the supplier and user perspectives.

Among the examples of wide-ranging RFID contracts Harrop cited are the 1.5 million RFID cards to Poland’s Warsaw Transport Department from On Track Innovations, 20,000 readers from VeriFone for Cabcharge taxi payment cards in Australia, and similar sized reader order placed with Digital Angel, this time to scan fish in American rivers.

The RFID Europe Conference will include more than 60 speakers and over 300 delegates attending from 30 countries, speaking on subjects ranging from security to RFID-tagged flower containers and beer transporters, to the safety of RFID usage in hospital critical care units. [end]
