IBM teams with Indian petroleum giant

Thursday, September 4, 2008 in News

IBM has announced a partnership with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to deploy a large RFID system at one of the company’s plants. The end-to-end tracking solution will be one of the largest RFID deployments in India and will involve infrastructure services, business consulting services and middleware solutions from IBM as part of the $2.2 million deal.

IBM will design, deploy and integrate the RFID solution for tracking LPG cylinders from bottling at the plant in Nashik through the supply chain to the end consumer. The initial phase of the project is expected to involve 500,000 cylinders.

After evaluating the solution’s performance, HPCL expects to expand the project to include as many as 42 more plants and the company’s network of dealers. [end]
