Terso to offer Gen-2 medical cabinets
Terso Solutions, a provider of RFID solutions for the health care industry, has announced an October release date for a new version of the company’s RFID-enabled medical cabinets. The new edition of the system will feature tags and interrogators compliant with the UHF EPC Gen-2 air-interface standard.
Terso offers a line of cabinets, refrigerators and freezers all equipped with RFID technology to enable automatic inventory tracking. All items contained in the Terso storage devices have RFID tags, and readers keep a constant inventory. When an item is removed, its absence is associated with the most recent employee to access the cabinet, determined by the RFID-enabled nametags used to gain entry. The system generates replenishment orders based on its inventory tallies.
Joe Pleshek, the director of business development for Terso, said the switch to the UHF EPC standard is to meet the needs of customers who are using the technology in other aspects of their operations. “By adopting UHF Gen-2 into our system, we are able to bring to market an operational platform that is universally accepted and can be integrated with current or future RFID systems,” says Pleshek.
