TriQuint Semiconductor buys WJ Communications

TriQuint Semiconductor, a foundry services provider and RF semiconductor manufacturer, has announced the approval of its acquisition of WJ Communications Inc., a supplier of RF solutions for wireless infrastructure. WJ’s product line complements TriQuint’s existing portfolio, broadening its networks market devices and adding RF design expertise.

WJ Communications stockholders approved the merger yesterday, based the merger agreement dated March 9, 2008. [end] 

AOptix Technologies announced that SITA, a specialist in air transport communications and information technology, has joined the AOptix Value Added Reseller program.

Under the partnership, SITA, who has customers in more than 200 countries which includes 300 airport locations, would be able to offer its customers AOptix solutions. These offerings include the InSight iris and face recognition product as an automated solution for airports to quickly and securely identify passengers at security checkpoints with documents such as biometric-enabled passports.

Proxama has announced a partnership with semiconductor supplier ARM Holdings to create secure payment mechanisms for mobile handsets.

The UK-based partners say they will combine ARM’s TrustZone technology with Proxama’s Mobile Wallet to develop a “highly secure” environment for NFC-enabled mobile contactless payments and mobile internet payments.

EarthSearch Communications has entered into a partnership agreement with Cynox, the Nigerian technology solutions provider, to monitor fuel levels in oil tankers.

In Nigeria, the cancellation of government oil subsidies has lead to increasing concerns over oil theft. EarthSearch’s integrated RFID and GPS product, together with level sensor technology will be used to monitor sudden drops in fuel level to detect the unauthorized siphoning of oil from the top of tanker.

PayPal has announced the acquisition of Boston-based mobile payments startup FigCard, according to TMCnet.

Founded in 2010, FigCard provides a solution that lets merchants accept mobile payments by plugging a special USB device into their cash register or point-of-sale terminal. To pay using the solution, customers need only install the Fig app on their smart phones, says TMCnet.
