Smart reader by Intermec skips the middleware

Thursday, April 24, 2008

Intermec has announced that the IF61 Smart Reader is validated as a remote platform to host IBM data capture applications. The Smart Reader allows customers to deploy RFID without a stand-alone middleware PC or separate controller device for each RFID reader or each physical location.

The Intermec IF61 provides users of IBM-based RFID applications the ability to develop, deploy and maintain RFID business logic on an intelligent RFID reader platform. The Smart Reader is intended to work with IBM’s newly released WebSphere Premises Server 6.1.

OATSystems’ OATedge software platform is also now Intermec IF61-ready, providing manufacturers and retailers with a packaged Asset Tracking solution, ready to run directly on the IF61 and eliminating the need for additional servers and controllers. [end]
