Holst Centre touts organic tag advances

Representatives of the European R&D institute Holst Centre say their 64 bit, inductively coupled, passive RFID tag has achieved a record 78 bit per seconds data readout. This represents a five-fold increase in bit-rate performance over plastic RFIDs, and could help pave the way for low-cost, high-volume RFID tags to replace bar codes in retail settings.


The announcement was made during a presentation at the International Solid-State Circuits Conference. Researchers said the performance over a distance of 10 centimeters approaches the requirements for tagging commercial products
