Confidex Announces Pino Tag For RFID

Confidex, a company specializing RFID design, manufacturing and engineering, has unveiled Confidex Pino, an EPC Generation 2 RFID tag that enables users to economically track wooden pallets, one of the most common transit items used throughout the world.

Confidex, a fast growing company with unique expertise in RFID design, manufacturing and engineering, recently announced Confidex Pino, an EPC Generation 2 RFID tag that enables users to economically track wooden pallets, one of the most common transit items used throughout the world.

Confidex has also identified applications within the forestry industry, which continues to strive for the improved usage of wood by reducing the environmental impact caused by inefficient forest production.

The Confidex Pino EPC Gen 2 RFID tag is specifically designed for high performance and durability and can be easily inserted into wooden assets, which until now, had been an implementation and economic challenge for users.

Hub télécom, a subsidiary of Aéroports de Paris Group, has developed a tracking system based on the Confidex Pino RFID tag for an asset management project in France. The project consists of RFID-equipped wooden pallets from Logistic Packaging Return (LPR) that are used by a food producer and a large retail company to automatically track their deliveries.

“Confidex Pino is a promising solution for wooden pallet tracking applications due to its performance, cost-efficiency, and easy installation on existing pallets, as well as on new pallets during production,” said Jacques Vandeputte, project manager at Hub télécom.

Pino joins Confidex’s industrial UHF RFID family of high-performing and durable tags including Ironside, Survivor, Steelwave, Corona,and Cruiser which have been successfully used in a variety of industrial asset tracking applications such as identification of IT assets, vehicles, rail cars, reusable transit items, in motion, from arctic to subtropical regions, and now, wooden items. [end] 

The Smart Card Alliance Transportation Council has published a white paper examining how the transit industry can best make use of NFC technology.

“One of the major challenges facing transit agencies today is how to capitalize on the ever-growing popularity of mobile phones with a solid mobile strategy,” said Transportation Council Chairman Craig Roberts. “This white paper builds on the knowledge base developed in earlier white papers to foster a greater understanding of NFC technology, explain its role in the transit industry, and shed light on key issues facing the transit industry in developing a mobile strategy.”

Confidex announced that its ultra-high frequency Gen2 RFID tags are being used in Container Centralen’s full scale RFID rollout called “Operation Chip It!”.

Container Centralen will use the tag as an electronic seal on its fleet of 3.5 million containers to enable transparency in the supply chain as well as improve overall quality of container pool by reducing risk of counterfeit containers to be included into the pool.

Texas Instruments (TI) introduced a pair of encapsulated RFID mini-transponders designed for applications in animal tagging and asset tracking.

The 12mm TRPGR30TGC and TRPGP40TGC mini-transponders were developed to enable users a battery-free solution for embedding RFID tags into smaller objects across a broader range of applications. These transponders come ready-to-use and are 100 percent backwards compatible with all of TI’s RFID software and readers including power modules, control modules and micro readers.

India transport operator Ahmedabad Janmarg Ltd. has launched a smart transit card for commuters traveling on the region’s bus system, according to ISO&Agent.

The agency began a six-month trial and August 2010 followed by a soft and silent launch in January 2012. The card is available now for a nonrefundable fee of 25 rupees ($.50 US cents) and allows commuters to travel for up to 100 minutes on one bus, for the minimum fare.
