Daimler AG has joined the EPCglobal group, which drives the development of electronic product codes for the RFID technology, as the first automotive manufacturer.

“The deployment of RFID technology throughout our supply chain offers the potential to improve the entire process quality and thus reduce costs,” said Michael Gorriz, CIO of Mercedes-Benz Cars & Vans, in a press release. “By joining EPCglobal, we can bring the requirements of the automotive industry into the development of automotive-specific RFID standards at an early stage. This helps us to prevent the costs associated with adjustments at a later stage of development.”
