Infineon Gives Omron's V680 Series RFID System its Contactless Memory

Thursday, August 2, 2007

Infineon Technologies’ “my-d vicinity” contactless memory chips will be used in Omron Corporation’s V680 Series RFID system, the company announced earlier this week.

The V680 Series, which conforms to ISO/IEC18000-3 mode 1 (ISO/IEC15693), is described as “an optimal RFID system for factory automation (FA) that is highly reliable and durable” – enabling “visualization of data transmission.”

RFID Solution: Infineon Supplies Contactless Memory For Omron RFID System

7/31/2007

Infineon Technologies announced that the company is supplying the Infineon “my-d vicinity” contactless memory chips for Omron Corporation’s V680 Series RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) system.

Omron is the world’s leading manufacturer of RFID equipment, providing solutions that utilize RFID for the manufacturing and logistics industries worldwide. The V680 Series, which conforms to ISO/IEC18000-3 mode 1 (ISO/IEC15693), is an optimal RFID system for factory automation (FA) that is highly reliable and durable, and enables “visualization of data transmission.

The Infineon “my-d vicinity” contactless chips have a memory capacity of 1,024 bytes. This capacity is among the highest in the industry, making it ideal for managing manufacturing data and quality traceability data on factory premises.

RFID is being introduced in logistics and manufacturing at an increasingly rapid pace, and the market continues to grow annually. Among the various applications in this market, FA continues to be the most common application for RF tags in Japan, accounting for more than a third of the total RF tags market in 2006 (according to Japan Automatic Identification Systems Association, April 2007).

Infineon’s “my-d vicinity” family includes products with a “plain” memory mode and capacity of 256 bytes and 1,024 bytes, with other enhanced security mode versions available. Infineon’s product portfolio also includes the lower-cost “my-d light” family with a smaller memory size, and the “my-d proximity” family, which is used in ticketing applications, and conforms to the ISO/IEC14443 type A in order to meet customer requirements. In these products, the EEPROM memory technology is used to provide high reliability required for data storage in FA applications.

Infineon Technologies has released a high-speed open interface for the company’s NFC security microcontrollers (eSE).

The DCLB (Digital Contact Less Bridge) interface is an open solution that connects the eSE and the NFC modem for faster data transfer rates. According to Infineon, this is achieved by dispensing with the temporary storage of data packets in the NFC modem, allowing the data to be transferred directly from the terminal to the Secure Element without creating additional protocol overheads.
