Printed organic RFID circuits are set to be used in a field trial at the Organic Electronics Conference (OEC-07) in Frankfurt, Germany, Sept. 24 to 26, reports EETimes.

The circuits are the first printed low-cost organic tickets, according to Cintelliq Ltd. (Cambridge, England), organizer of the conference. They have been developed under the auspices of PRISMA, a collaborative research project on printed smart labels with European Union funding.

STMicroelectronics unveils contactless method for RF testing

STMicroelectronics developed a new RF testing method that uses electromagnetic waves instead of contact probes to remotely evaluate wafers equipped with RFID ICs.

According to ST, this “contactless” approach results in higher yields, shorter testing times and lower product cost. In addition, contactless testing allows RF circuits to be tested under conditions that are close to the real application conditions.

German data protection agency may bring Facebook to court

Germany’s Data Protection Agency is preparing a lawsuit against Facebook over its facial recognition feature. The system automatically scans user submitted photographs and tags the people in the photo based on their unique facial characteristics as long as they are friend with the person who posted the image, according to an IT Portal article.

Identive acquires majority stake in German cashless payment provider

Identive Group Inc. has announced a deal to acquire a majority stake in Hamburg, Germany-based payment solution AG, a cashless payment system provider for stadiums, arenas and other types of entertainment venues.

Survey: Germans coming around to NFC, contactless payments

A new survey from Euro Kartensysteme shows that Germans are starting to embrace the idea of contactless and NFC payments.

Out of 1,040 Germans aged 18-59, 43% responded that they would like to make contactless payments if given the opportunity, of which 58% percent would make their payments with a debit card card, 41% with a credit card and 50% with an NFC phone.

Sparkasse issues 1.3 million contactless bank cards

German bank, Sparkasse will pilot contactless payments for its bank credit card users, reports Venture Village.

Locations in Hannover, Braunschweig and Wolfsburg will be some of the first for the trial, which begins in April. More than 1.3 million customers will receive the new bank cards complete with contactless functionality.

RISE Project holds concluding conference covering research and innovation

The Rising pan-European and International Awareness of Biometrics and Security Ethics (RISE) Project has announced it will be concluding its biometrics conference covering responsible research and innovation in biometrics on December 1 - 2.
