Tyco Unveils RFID Kit for DoD Suppliers

Saturday, April 21, 2007 in News

Tyco Electronics’ newly released RFID kits are ready to go for suppliers that want to meet the Department of Defenses’s latest RFID mandates.

Each kit contails hardware and software, as well as extensive DoD compliance information.

Tyco Electronics announced three solution kits to help suppliers prepare to meet the Department of Defense’s RFID mandate. Each kit contains the hardware and software to allow companies to evaluate and begin deploying a comprehensive RFID solution. Each kit also includes extensive DoD compliance information including background, official policy, supplier implementation plan, passive tag data, supplier guide, references, and frequently asked questions.

“Companies supplying the DoD are looking for comprehensive solutions in order to meet the RFID mandate,” said Eric Freid, director global business development for RFID products at Tyco Electronics. “Our new compliance kits provide a multilevel solution to allow customers to implement RFID capabilities within their logistics chain. Along with the hardware and software, each kit’s extensive compliance information will aid successful deployment.”

Kits

The three compliance kits are:

  1. DoD Mark-It: RFID-enabled printer, PrintEasy software, and 1000 ePC Class 1, Gen 2 tags;
  2. DoD Track-It: RFID reader/antenna system, RFID-enabled printer, PrintEasy software, and 1000 ePC Class 1, Gen 2 tags
  3. DoD Share-It: DoD compliance software suite, RFID reader/antenna system, RFID-enabled printer, PrintEasy software, and 1000 ePC Class 1, Gen 2 tags.

Kit Components

The DoD compliance software allows users to create a product catalog and DoD address book for all products that need RFID tags, create tags, enter DoD orders manually using the software’s user interface, print RFID encoded labels, perform verification of RFID-enabled shipments, and create an order detail file that can be uploaded to WAWF.

The T412 series printer prints, encodes, and inspects tags. It features a fully integrated UHF RFID reader/encoder with extensive calibration features and power settings to provide maximum flexibility. It also supports 1D and 2D barcode and XML-enabled printing.

PrintEasy RFID and label printing software simplifies design of labels and barcodes. With built-in templates and encoding/printing drivers, the software is easy to configure and to use. Database support includes Microsoft ODBC and SAP for easy integration into existing systems.

The RFID reader/antenna system is network capable and allows validity testing of each tag’s functionality and data. Each kit includes 1000 96-bit tags, available in a choice of 4x2, 4x6, or 3x3 configuration. [end]
