Former AWID Exec to Head Tech at QI Systems

QI Systems, a developer of goods that facilitate contact and contactless payment and more, on Tuesday announced the appointment of Donny V. Lee to Chief Technology Officer.

Mr. Lee formerly served as CEO and Chairman of Applied Wireless Identifications Group (AWID), a company he founded in 1997.

(OTCBB: QIII), a leading developer and integrator of contact and contactless card payment, security control and tracking solutions, today announced that the Company has appointed industry veteran Donny V. Lee to the newly created position of Chief Technology Officer. Effective immediately, Mr. Lee will assume primary responsibilities for strategic planning and implementation for all of QI Systems’ design engineering, production and technical development.

Mr. Lee ends a short retirement to assist QI Systems, having previously served as CEO and Chairman of Applied Wireless Identifications Group (known as AWID), a corporation he founded in 1997. At AWID, Mr. Lee developed the company started as an engineering oriented organization into a profitable, market-focused operation with clear technology leadership. Under his direction, AWID reported twelve consecutive quarters of profitability and was twice honored as a Rising Star Company in the Deloitte Technology Fast 500. [end] 

McDonald’s and Barclaycard are gearing up to launch NFC awareness campaigns aimed at spurring the adoption of contactless payment technology, according to MarketingWeek.

Barclaycard, which holds the highest share (71%) of the UK contactless market, reports that contactless transactions have doubled in the last year, but are still “nowhere near” where they want to be, according to Tom Gregory, Barclaycard’s head of digital payments.

Ed McLaughlin, MasterCard’s head of Emerging Payments, has some good news for those waiting on NFC-enabled phones for contactless payments.

In an interview with Fast Company, McLaughlin said that he didn’t know of a handset maker who wasn’t working on integrating support for PayPass contactless payments.
