In France, item-level RFID infrastructure provider TagSys, in partnership with FabricAuto and La Poste, have introduced a new RFID-based vehicle identification and anti-theft/misuse system called ‘TRI-Tag’ (Traffic Registration Identification). The TRI-Tag system effectively adds a layer of electronic identification to reinforce existing visual identification methods. TagSys RFID tags are integrated by FabricAuto into a vehicle’s registration components, including La Poste’s Phil@poste secured windshield holographs. The combined system protects vehicle owners from theft and unauthorised misuse of their vehicle.”

The U.S. government has settled an infringement case with Leighton Technologies by agreeing to license its smart cards.

Leighton Technologies, a subsidiary of General Patent, filed a case against the federal government in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims in January 2010. Leighton alleged that 54 federal agencies used its six smart card patents without authorization. Leighton’s technology was also used in e-passports.

IC TAG utilizes Alien Technology’s EPC Gen 2 Squiggle, Squiglette, and Square inlays in their IC-TAG RFID labels and tags. Alien uses its own proprietary microchip, Higgs 3, to produce its ultra-high frequency RFID tracking devices.
